Ecotourism

The focus of the Center for International Development with Ecotourism cluster is planning and developing community-based, environmentally friendly tourism destinations (ecotourism) that prioritize how to maintain and prevent ecological damage, provide positive impacts on local culture and strengthen the local economy in a sustainable manner with a global perspective by involving various stakeholders.

Currently, the development of Ecotourism in Bali as a logistical part of sustainable development, requires a multidisciplinary approach, careful planning (both physical and management) as well as strict guidelines and regulations that can guarantee the implementation of sustainability. In some cases, ecotourism has caused a number of problems rather than generating sufficient profits as intended, for example the emergence of ecological damage, negative influences on local culture and the emergence of local economic difficulties. Therefore, ecotourism planning needs to be developed in stages starting from regional to international levels and based on the principles of nature and environmental conservation by providing opportunities for local communities to actively participate in ecotourism activities, starting from the planning, management and monitoring stages. In relation to the focus of the International Development study center with the Ecotourism cluster, it is how we can plan and develop tourism (ecotourism), especially in Bali and Eastern Indonesia in a sustainable manner and with global perspectives.

The new value of the Center for International Development with Ecotourism Cluster is that it is the only study center in Bali that focuses on planning and developing sustainable ecotourism destinations with a global perspective. Hence, with the existence of an ecotourism cluster, it is hoped that it can accommodate universities to expand their collaboration network widely, especially in developing ecotourism destinations that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. The following are some potential activities that can be planned in the future, such as:

Potential Activities:

  1. Focus Group Discussion with several institutions related to the development of ecotourism globally.
  2. Organize visits to study centers related to tourism (ecotourism) outside the region/country to conduct comparative studies/training and even joint research.
  3. International Conference

The relationships between Center for International Development with Ecotourism cluster towards study programs/faculties is especially Vocational School where currently working on the Tourism Destination study program, which will later be able to synergize in planning and developing sustainable ecotourism destinations either in the form of research or comparative studies with a global perspective from various stakeholders. In addition, it will also collaborate with tourism institutions both domestically and abroad.

The relationships between the ecotourism cluster in the Center for International Development with other departments or directorates is that they can collaborate and synergize with each other in developing the vision of Warmadewa University globally, which can later be used as a reference in carrying out collaboration in conducting research, community services related to ecotourism, even human resource development. If possible, it can be developed further in the formation of new study programs or faculties which will later be used for better University development.
