Gender Equality & Woman Equality
The Cluster of Women and Gender Equality
Gender equality is an urgent imperative that has been increasingly recognized as being essential to the process of sustainable development and the formulation of effective national development policies and programs. The world is experiencing an unprecedented set of crises with disproportionately negative impacts on women, girls, sexual and gender minorities, and marginalized groups (women with disabilities, indigenous women, etc,). Climate change, fragility, forced displacement, and pandemics threaten hardwon gains in women’s human capital. As crises intertwine with structural transformations, gender constraints increasingly harm societies, including men.
Cluster Gender Equality and Women Empowerment focuses on investigating gender roles in various social, cultural, legal, political, economic, scientific, and technological contexts, primarily based on the Indonesian experience. This cluster aims to contribute to a better understanding of the situation and provides concert recommendations for the formulation of strategies and interventions to respond to policymakers, advocates, researchers, media, and society-specific needs and demands to increase understanding of the actual situation of women and men in society; to advance gender analysis and research; to monitor progress towards gender equality and the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental rights for women and girls; develop and monitoring policies and programs oriented towards increasing investment in human resources capital and labor force; to support gender mainstreaming in development and poverty reduction policy; and to develop and monitor policies to reduce violence against women.
Attaining gender equality presents a distinct and intricate challenge. It demands alterations across national legislations, policies, actions in both public and private sectors, and individual lifestyles. Implementing these alterations necessitates persistent, widespread dedication and funding for solutions supported by solid evidence. This task becomes notably demanding in today's global scenario marked by slow economic growth and increased poverty.
At Warmadewa University, faculty members might engage in interdisciplinary research, publish papers, and conduct studies examining gender disparities, societal norms, and strategies for empowerment. Faculty members might also collaborate with the center to organize events, workshops, or outreach programs, creating spaces for dialogue and action on these critical issues.
